Overview:

The Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a beautiful area in the southern part of Tanzania. It has various habitats such as tropical rainforest, mountain and miombo forest, grassland and steppe. There are more than 400 species of birds, thousands of species of plants and six species of monkeys – including the rare Iringa red colobus and the Sanje crested mangabey. These two types can only be found in this region. A combination of Mikumi and Udzungwa is sure to satisfy curious adventurers!

Itinerary:

Day 1: Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

This morning, your driver guide will pick you up at the designated location in Dar or Morogoro and transfer you to Mikumi National Park for a thrilling safari in the preserve commonly referred to as Little Serengeti due to its rich wildlife. There is a rich variety bird species as well as large numbers of giraffes, buffaloes and elephants close to the water holes also lions, leopards and hippos. Furthermore, you can see zebras, lions, wild dogs, pythons, hartebeest, wildebeest, elephants, impala, warthog, eland and other antelopes. Several observation towers enable you to overview the park in its entirety. Mikumi National Park is nestled between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast, and the Rubeho Mountains, Udzungwa Mountains and Rift Valley escarpment to the southwest with prolific wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian.

Day 2: Hike in Udzungwa Mountains National Park

After an early breakfast, head towards Udzungwa Mountains National Park, 65km (1-hour drive) southwest of Mikumi. Udzungwa is a magnet for hikers- an excellent network of forest trails includes the popular half-day ramble to Sanje Waterfall, which plunges 170 metres (550 feet) through a misty spray into the forested valley below. The tropical green & lush environment of Udzungwa is the natural habitat of several endemic butterflies, birds and Sanje mangabey monkeys. Enjoy a day hike on the Sanje route. Dinner and overnight Camp Bastian.

Day 3: Full Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

Enjoy a full day game drive in Mikumi National Park. As part of the Selous ecosystem, the preserve benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. The landscape here is beautiful and the wildlife prolific. You can expect to see animals like elephant, giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu, wildebeest, antelope, tree-climbing lion, leopard, jackal and an amazing array of colorful birds. Dinner & overnight Camp Bastian.

Day 4: Departure

After a leisurely breakfast at the camp, drive back to Dar es Salaam for onward travel arrangements.
